Joint Entrance Exam or popularly known as JEE is a highly prestigious entrance exam for students who wish to study engineering in premier institutes across the country. JEE is held in two phases viz,

  • JEE Mains
  • JEE Advanced
Many students would be appearing for JEE 2017 for the first time while for others would have already appeared for JEE 2016. Based on the analysis of previous year exam pattern for JEE, students must take the following lessons.
  1. Understanding the pattern

  • The questions that appeared in JEE Main 2016 focused three basics aspects. The recollection of formulae and concepts, the inferences drawn from concepts dealt and the extraction from the questions.
  • Questions asked in JEE Mains primarily focus on time management. In less time you have a lot of questions to solve. The level of question varies from easy to difficult. Hence for JEE Main, you should have a mindset of solving as many questions in given amount of time
  • For preparing for JEE Advanced 2017, you need to focus on answering questions correctly, rather than just attempting it. You need to be conceptually clear with all the chapters, especially the fundamentals.
  1. Read the instructions carefully

  • The exam pattern for JEE 2017 must be carefully studied. The pattern of questions asked in JEE Advanced is almost the same every year, but the paper may surprise you at times, with the introduction of numerical answer type questions, no negative marking in some of the questions.
  • For JEE Advanced 2017, it is expected that some of the questions have multiple correct answers while some of them do not have a negative marking.
  • In the integer type questions, the answer is sometimes required to be rounded off to the nearest integer. It is recommended to read the instructions carefully in the 15 minutes given prior to the beginning of the examination.

  1. Understand the questions and then proceed

  • For the questions that hold too many information, you should first understand what it demands and then proceed with the solutions rather than jumping to the solution first.
  • Many of the questions that appeared in JEE 2016, especially in Physics, has extra information to confuse the students. Such questions may have been too intimidating had you not understood the question properly. It is advised to extract the data and note them down before proceeding with the solution.

  1. Do not miss out on any topic

  • Some of the topics that had not been touched in the recent JEE papers were asked in JEE 2016. It is advised to prepare even those topics that do not appear too important.

  1. Time Management

  • Students appearing for the exam are usually under great mental stress and it may happen that under such an extreme pressure they forget or get confused on some of the concepts and formulae.
  • In such situations, they tend to panic when they are not getting a result from a question they were confident with.
  • Instead of wasting time on the same question they should move to other questions and try to cover maximum questions possible.

  1. Positive attitude

  • The students who have already appeared for JEE 2016 must not regret their failure rather you should focus on the topics you had missed for the last attempt.

  1. Equal focus on each subject

  • Since all the subjects hold equal weightage in JEE, many of the students fail to clear individual subject wise cut off.
  • It is crucial to devote equal time to all the subjects in the same order they have been practicing before.

  1. Stay calm and composed

  • The JEE examination is a test of knowledge and aptitude as well as technique and patience. While solving questions, you must not jump from one question or subject to the other.
  • You should give ample time to each question as the questions require a little thinking as well.

  1. Revision

  • Though we cover most of the concepts beforehand while attempting the questions we fail to recall them. This happens mainly because of lack of revision.
  • In the last 3 months of your preparation, you should devote half of the preparation time to revision.
  • Also, it is advisable that while taking JEE 2017 if possible save some time for going back to the questions you have doubt in.
